5 Easy & Fun New Year Resolutions

Have you ever noticed that New Year resolutions almost always include extreme changes that challenge and disrupt our current way of life? Quit all your bad habits, go on a cleanse, go to the gym 5 days a week, etc. Perhaps the reason we haven’t already made these changes is that they’re not fun or sustainable!

At Frame of Mind Coaching, our philosophy is that if your thinking is not aligned with your resolutions, they will be short-lived! One way to start making sustainable change is to choose resolutions that are FUN and EASY to execute.

Here are 5 New Year resolutions that you can easily keep and actually enjoy:

1. Move More
I’m not saying that you need to get a gym membership or make a commitment to vigorous, daily exercise. Instead, turn on the radio and dance. Skip around with your children. Wave your arms when you’re at a hockey game. Take the stairs. Do a few arm lifts with your grocery bags. Do jumping jacks during commercials. Just move!

2. Learn a Little
You don’t have to take a Japanese language class or learn quantum theory. Just tune into the vast amount of learning that’s available to you in all the corners of your life. Pay attention to the people around you and learn from them. For example, ask the person standing beside you at the grocery store what they plan on making with that squash.

3. Start One New Thing
Try a new food. See a new movie. Talk to a stranger. Make something you’ve never made before. Attend one kickboxing class. If you like it, make it a regular habit. If not, move on to something else!

4. Find Some Money
We are surrounded by money at all times. It’s on the floor, in the couch, in your car, in your pocket, in drawers – everywhere. Find it! When you notice how much money is around you, you start tuning into the wild abundance that is at your disposal and you position yourself to leverage financial opportunities.

5. Sing a Song
Literally. Hum a tune. Whistle while you work. Share song lyrics on Facebook. When you have a song stuck in your head, sing it out loud. When you hear a song, sing along. Teach your kids a new song and sing it with them. Singing is by far one of the easiest methods to adjust your thinking and improve your Frame of Mind!

This New Year, you don’t need to make a huge leap into a new life. Taking small steps toward the life you want is a far more easy and fun way to get there.

That said, many people have trouble trying even these simple things because they feel resistant. If that is the case for you, it is wise to take a closer look at your thinking in order to figure out what’s really getting in your way.
